“Managers at The Sunrise Project now have a clear understanding around what is and isn’t their responsibility when it comes to employee well-being,” said Diana Pasquali, the Director of Learning and Development at The Sunrise Project. “Opening the dialogue has let managers know they are not alone, and the new skills they’ve gained have strengthened their confidence and ability to support their team members. We would definitely work with Mind Share Partners again.”
The Context
As the climate crisis intensifies, and the frequency of extreme weather resulting in disasters increases, a growing number of people are experiencing heightened anxiety and grief. This grief is also prevalent among the workers within the organizations working to solve this crisis.
At the Sunrise Project, Diana Pasquali noticed a growing trend. Managers were reaching out more frequently to her, seeking guidance on how to support their team members facing mental health challenges. Managers were also seeking more clarity around what their role is in regards to employee well-being.
Pasquali searched for a partner to help her address these issues, and found Mind Share Partners. She knew the organization would be a great partner based on their client portfolio, and robust manager training program. She also really appreciated that their strategy was informed by a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lens.
The Sunrise Project’s Custom Strategy
The Sunrise Project’s global team made it challenging to get people manager’s organization-wide together in-person. Mind Share recommended on-demand learning to let managers learn at their own pace and convenience. This was combined with live, scenario-based training sessions to bring team members together virtually to practice these new skills.
The Impact
After taking the manager training:
86% of people managers were more likely to model mentally healthy behaviors to support their members.
71% said they had a better understanding of their role, and felt more comfortable talking about mental health at work.
Pasquali noted that people managers had great feedback on the content. One manager said that “hearing stories from colleagues during the start of the session was powerful and made it more meaningful,” and another said that they appreciated receiving a “clear road map” to better support their team members.
