— Teresa Moyles, Senior Director of HR, FileCloud
The Context
When you have a globally distributed team, you lose some of the moments of connection that happen in the office. When you see someone in person, it’s easier to notice small cues that something might be off. With limited time spent on Zoom calls each week, and a team of developers who tend to be more introverted, it was difficult for FileCloud managers to gauge how their team members were really doing. Further, as a global company with a presence in over 29 countries, FileCloud’s workforce represents a diverse team of many different attitudes, experiences, and norms around if and how mental health plays a role in the workplace.
FileCloud’s HR team had started building basic awareness on mental health through conversations and curated articles. But an employee engagement survey pointed to a greater desire from their team to focus more on well-being and build mental health into the culture. Ray Downes—FileCloud’s CEO—suggested Mind Share Partners to take this work to the next level.
FileCloud's Custom Strategy
Storytelling + Manager Training
With mental health programming being fairly new at FileCloud, we suggested the combination of an all-team storytelling event and a 90-minute manager training. This combination targets stigma reduction and gives managers immediately actionable tools and guidance on how to have mental health conversations with direct reports and support an overall culture that integrates a mental health lens.
The Impact
In a post-survey for the manager training session, 100% of respondents reported they are more likely to model mentally healthy behaviors for their team, and 93% felt more equipped to support their team.
Teresa Moyles, Senior Director of HR at FileCloud, has noticed more conversations happening across the organization and that managers have expressed their gratitude for the training session.
The storytelling session resonated with FileCloud team members globally. “It was a great and unique opportunity for our whole team to come together and open up. We received great feedback on how it was nice to hear colleagues be vulnerable,” Moyles noted.
FileCloud’s CEO received multiple messages from team members thanking the organization for hosting the storytelling event. Moyles shared, “The volume of participants was a real reflection of Mind Share’s support in assisting with building anticipation for the event.”
