Mental health is not an “us” vs. “them” issue—we’re all in this together.

Nearly everyone will face a mental health challenge at some point during their lifetime. That means mental health affects every meeting, every phone call, and every workplace.

And even worse, many organizational cultures create mental health challenges for all employees. What if we could drastically improve individual lives, communities, and professional cultures by reducing stigma, proactively supporting workers' mental health, and building healthy and sustainable work cultures?

OUR MOVEMENT'S GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Core Truths

Our Goals

Outcomes  We Seek

  • Mental health matters at work because work impacts our mental health.

  • Mental health is intrinsically tied to our identities and experiences.

  • Mentally healthy workplaces make work better for everyone.

  • Supporting workplace mental health requires leadership commitment and action.

  • Mental health can be embedded into what you are already doing.

  • Normalize mental health at work for everyone.

  • Build mentally healthy cultures to replace harmful workplace factors with sustainable practices that protect and sustain employee wellbeing

  • Shifting from being seen as an individual employee’s responsibility to a collective responsibility in organizations.

  • Fundamentally being woven into how organizations operate and the ways we work.

Leading With a DEIB Lens

Mental health at work is integral to the future of work and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). Every demographic group—and those at their intersections—experience mental health in the workplace differently. An intersectional and systems change lens is a core tenant of our strategy and is integrated into all our work with clients and our Movement Building work.

WHY IT MATTERS

Mental health is universal, and challenges are increasingly the norm.

76% of U.S. workers reported experiencing at least one symptom of a mental health condition in the past year.

The workplace drives mental health and other long-health outcomes.

84% of employees reported at least one workplace factor had negatively impacted their mental health.

Workers are prioritizing mental health.

91% of job seekers think it is important for a company’s culture to support mental health, and 50% have left jobs for mental health reasons.

Stigma is real (still).

8 in 10 employees say stigma keeps them from getting treatment, and only half of U.S. workers got a positive response when talking about mental health at work.

Culture efforts pay off.

Awareness-building programs have a 6:1 ROI, compared to reactive, treatment-focused programs at 3:1.
